Established in 1966, Thip Samai is arguably Bangkok's most famous single-dish restaurant — a narrow shophouse on Maha Chai Road near the Golden Mount that has become a pilgrimage site for noodle devotees. The original owners passed the restaurant to their children, who maintained the recipe unchanged. Today a queue forms before opening and the chefs work at extraordinary speed, cooking pad thai in individual servings over charcoal woks.
The signature dish is the "Pad Thai Haw Khai" — pad thai wrapped in a delicate net of egg that is cooked directly on the wok. Order with the super premium option (prawns) for the full experience. A fresh-squeezed orange juice operation runs alongside, producing glasses of intense sweetness. The restaurant is open daily from 5pm to midnight. Arrive at 4:45pm to secure a seat without a long wait.
